Impact of AR Rahman
AR Rahman. The name makes every Indian Proud. The man who
brought Oscars to India. The man who made the whole world respect Indian Music.
The man who took Indian Music to an all different level. The man who gave
Indian Music the place it deserves.
I am not saying he is the only man who made us proud but was
surely a person instrumental in getting it to the right stage through the right
process. He was one music director from Tamil Nadu who was able to successfully
transition to an All Indian Music Director. His initial Tamil Albums started
being translated to Hindi and were great hits.
Then came his original Hindi Score “Rangeela” after which he
never looked back. He was one director who was accepted across the nation. He became
so famous that some of his work was adapted by even Hollywood films. Such was
the impact of this musician. He inspired so many young people to compose music.
The variety he brought to the stage was absolutely unbelievable.
The freshness of his music was superb. No wonder he won the national award for
his first film. It’s believed that he in fact designed his own keyboard. Such
is his genius. His research with music has taken him to many places.
His music school today inspires many young talent to become
great musicians. Music director Anu Malik had mentioned once that he started
composing back ground score after listening to AR Rahman. His scores gave him
the confidence. There are so many great artists who were surprised with this
man’s talent.
He started at a very young age and today he is a Youth Icon
in India. His ad jingles, film music, back ground music, stage plays have all
become evergreen classics. His song “Maa Tujhe Salaam” in Hindi or “Thaai Manne
Vanakkam” is now played in most stages, republic day functions, Independence
Day functions etc. Such is the impact of this great musician.
In South India some film directors who had constantly worked
with Ilayaraja only moved to AR Rahman for various reasons. But one major
reason was the new style of music and the reaction of people to his style of
music. Initially there were many critics who were complaining about the western
impact in his music and he was taking the people away from traditional music.
But even they had to agree that this change was inevitable as people wanted new
style of music. Today some of them openly appreciate him for his revolution in
music.
Such talent can never be suppressed. His Hindi music Album Taal
is still believed by many to be one of his best works. Who can forget the
moment when he won the Oscars. Whole of India was tuned to the television once
he got nominated to the Oscars. His speech at the Oscars was equally brilliant and
showed the true character of the person.
God bless him and may he shower us with more great music.
