Music – A treatment to the soul

Music is a gift to mankind from nature. It can heal your soul in seconds. Even after a tiring stressful day if you listen to some divine music for few minutes you will get energized. Such is the magic of music.

In Indian culture, music is a part of life. If you analyze deeply music is there in every aspect of life.
The early morning sounds of the bird, the silent sound of the breeze is also a form of music which nature gives.

The Hindu goddess Saraswathi is depicted to be holding the Veena which is a symbol of music. The great saint Narada holds a Tambura. The supreme lord Krishna is seen holding a flute. Even Lord Shiva is depicted with a Damru. This shows the importance of music in our life.

Music has many forms. In India Classical Music prevails a lot. In South India Carnatic Music is practiced a lot. Nowadays there are lot of youngsters practicing Western Music like Rock, Pop etc. There are a lot of instruments like Veena, Tabla, Mrudangam, Violin, Piano, Sitar, Gatam, Guitar, Flute, Morsing which people learn.

Off late there is a lot of craze for fusion music which serves you a mixture of various musical forms like classical, Carnatic, western etc. In South India there is a regular musical month called Margazhi which falls during the month of December and January. Throughout this season there are various musical concerts happening across states. If you want to hear some of the greatest musicians then this season is the ideal time. Every Sabha will have concerts were some great artists perform.

Great artists like Balamuralikrishna, Yesudas, Padma Subramaniam, Kailash Kher, Shuba mudgal, Hariharan perform during this time in various sabhas. Listening to these people will really give a lot of peace to your mind. These concerts mostly happen in the evenings. After finishing a hard day’s work if you want to really get relaxed and energized then this is the place to be.

There have been various researches conducted across the world which have proven that listening to some soulful music can heal a person’s mind. It gives your mind the strength to focus on things clearly. It is another form of meditation.

In India there are stories of people inviting rain using Music. A small mid is put to sleep by its mother with a sweet music. Every marriage in South India will have a Nadaswaran and Mrudungam music playing while the sacred knot is tied.

Even in some lifts there is music playing. This is to mainly relax your mind when you are in the lift. Similarly there is music in some conference calls while you are waiting for the call to begin. This proves the fact that listening to music is the perfect treatment for your soul.


So make music a part of your life. Listen daily and you will feel the difference.
