Music – Binding nations together
Music is an eternal feeling. It brings people together.
There could be a lot of differences in the world. But there is one common truth
which everyone accepts which is music.
People can be divided by religion, caste and language. But
they can be united with the help of music because music has no language. So
there are no barriers to it. A person from United States is amazed listening to
Carnatic Music.
I am from India and one issue every Indian or for that
matter the whole world is aware of is the border issues with Pakistan. As an
Indian we all know that there is no personal hatred against any person in
Pakistan. There is a deep understanding that it was once a part of India before
partition. It is because of some age old political issues and some self-centered
people that still there are issues among these countries.
Though cricket has been used to bring people together, it
still does not solve the purpose. Every match is seen as a war by some people.
I have heard people saying that they don’t mind India losing a match to anyone
but they can’t digest a defeat against Pakistan.
But my personal opinion is that Music has moved above all these
differences. The biggest example is how the Bollywood music is so popular in
Pakistan. Similarly so many artists from Pakistan have performed in India and
we love their music.
Ustad Fateh Ali Kahn and Rahat Ali Khan is one of the best
examples today. We Indians loved him so much that he even composed music for
one of our films. Both of them have sung so many songs in Hindi Films. AR
Rahman even used Late Ustad Fateh Ali Khan in his famous album Vande Mataram.
This shows the binding which music can bring among people.
Worldwide there are many examples. Late Michael Jackson is
probably an example which everyone would agree with. His songs cut through
various caste, color and sections of the society across the world. His famous
song “Black or White” is still played across all music stations. Such is the
power of music. That is why Music should be used to spread messages for world
peace.
I am not saying it is not happening already. But it needs to
be done at a much higher frequency to make people understand that this is the
only thing that can make people understand other people whom they think as
enemies.
We all know deep down that all human beings are the same.
Their culture and language might differ but we all feel the same pain when
someone is hurt. Only when we listen to Music and start spreading messages
through it will reach a lot of people.
