It's time to uplift underground music

When it comes to music in India people mostly refer to Film music. So the film music directors always get the limelight. This is normally the case with the general population. This is because most of them listen to music in FM radio or TV. And these channels always play film music. So it is obvious that only those mainline music directors get the recognition in public.

Then there are those famous Carnatic and Classical artists who are well known in their circle. But even their visibility is restricted to the audience who listen to this genre of music. There are various theaters which host Carnatic and classical music concerts.

But we all forget the underground music directors and groups who don’t get the recognition they deserve. We normally see them in public concerts organized mainly by corporates or colleges. It is normally the youth of the nation which gets to know these musicians through their college functions and office parties.

Only when people listen to these music they will understand the originality and the difference from regular film music. These underground musicians come up with such innovations that you will be surprised.

It is good to see that some leading mainline musicians are offering support to uplift underground music. It is also good news for the film industry which will get some fresh blood in music. A director will have more options in hand once these artists get more visibility and their music is heard by a wider audience. Support to these artists are growing slowly though. Music awards like Artist Aloud music award offers a great platform for these underground musicians. This year there are four genre of awards being offered namely Pop, Rock Global and Fusion. And under each genre there are four categories for best song, best female, best male and best group.

I really loved the music of Sanjay K featuring various artists. I loved their fusion music. There are so many choices of genre these artists have to offer.
