How my Alumni resulted in a Foundation

I wanted to share something about a very important activity that I have got involved in recent times. You may consider this as a promotional blog but I believe the cause is more important. I studied in Prince Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madipakkam, Chennai. I passed out in 1997 from my school. I did not have connect with any of my school mates. In fact was in touch with only one of them which I know is quite shameful. But that's how I am. I don't have a big network. Have only a limited circle of friends with whom I interact.  That too not very frequently. Lets say family and work life has kept me occupied a lot.  It was in Feb 2018 when I got a friend request from one of my school colleagues. Frankly, I was a bit surprised. She said that couple of them are trying to get the 1997 batch together. I must confess I didn't remember a lot of them but I was very excited. Soon a whats app group was formed and we had a lot of friends coming together. The initial days we

A blog after long time

WOW......It feels so nice to be blogging again after such a long time. Got so immersed in my small world of family, work and friends that I completely forgot this small piece of my life. May be the lock down due to COVID-19 has finally woken me up to do something different from the routine. Have been completely indoors since March 15th 2020. Well did get out a few times for buying essential though. May be the lock down experience will be a good thing to start my blogging journey again. But I am not going to talk about the pains this pandemic has brought on us. That is something known to everyone and being discussed in every new channel nowadays. I am going to talk about what this thing has taught us. First and foremost, this has brought back a habit of cleanliness. Washing hands, legs and face regularly. This was something I saw was not being followed regularly by most of us. I have seen people entering the house and heading to the sofa or bed directly. By now everyone has developed th

An unforgettable experience at Wayanad Petal Resorts

Image
We stayed in Wayanad Petal resorts last weekend and I must say it was a very pleasant experience. We were a big family of 27 members and all of them loved this place.  Our trip started with the big gang travelling by train from Chennai Central to Kozhikode on Saturday evening. We reached Coimbatore on Sunday early morning and refreshed at the waiting room. Our travels (Diya Travels) arrived on time. A nice 26 seater tempo traveller with good AC. A very polite druver as well. A special thanks to Ranjith Kumar (owner of Diya Travels). I would recommend this travels for anyone visiting Kozhikode. We then had our breakfast and started on our journey to Wayanad. The route has got quite a few hairpin bends but I must say it was a very pleasant drive apart for a few members who had nausea :) We reached the resort around lunch time. We were immediately treated with a nice lunch till our check in got sorted out. The hotel staff helped us tag our luggage for the respective rooms and m

Suicides – A sad truth we are facing today

What can be more dangerous to a society than the fact that many of its youngster are committing suicide. The reasons are many. Every day when I turn the newspaper I invariably come across at least one story of suicide. The age ranges from 15 to 80. While I was growing up I only used to read about the suicides due to financial pressure. People who could not settle their debts, who could not earn a living for their family would end up committing suicides. Farmer suicide is one of the most important topic which should be addressed today according to me. A country which had 80% of income coming from agriculture a few decades back should not be facing farming suicides in such large numbers. But what concerns me more is the suicide among youngster today. I believe the problems have grown multifold today. There is a lot pressure when it comes to education, lifestyle, career, family life etc. Most of it can be contributed to the pressure we put on us fearing about what others would t

My kid’s imaginations

Fantasy is a word which we associate with stories narrated to kids normally. Ranging from Cinderella story to super heroes there are so many stories told today. It’s there everywhere. In movies, in TV and in comic books. The things which excite me the most is not the stories but the excitement it brings to children. I love the expressions on my son’s face when he sees or listens to these stories. He would never want it to stop. His joy when the hero defeats the bad guys, his surprise looks when he looks at magical moments are memories which I would cherish till the end of my life. The most interesting part is when they start building a story of their own. Nothing more gives me happiness than to listen to my son’s creative stories. The excitement in which he tells his story is unparalleled. Thanks to the #colgatemagicalstories pack which brought out again the story creator from my son’s world. There were two good things in the pack to begin with. Firstly there was this ex

Yuva – Peppy music at its best

I am a great fan of AR Rahman since I heard him first in Roja. It swept me off the floor. I was used to hearing Ilayaraja and this guy was a big surprise for me. Not that I was the only one following Ilayaraja. Well the whole of south India was only listening to him till then. Roja, Kadalan, Gentleman, Thiruda Thiruda one after another. Rahman was taking the Indian music industry by storm. No wonder he was nicknamed Musical Storm in Tamil Nadu.Such was his craze. Copies of his album would get sold in record time in Music World. There were be hundreds waiting for the new copies. Though I have heard many memorable album of his the one closest to my heart is Yuva. Yuva means youth. So was the music of the film. It was so youthful and full of energy. Each and every song was different and peppy. "Dhakka Laga Bukka" is a beautiful song. It is kind of an enthusiastic song encouraging the youth of the nation to move ahead and bring the revolution. The music is fast an

Impact of IT industry

I am part of a generation that has seen the growth of IT industry. Especially in India, I saw it grow at an enormous pace in the last 20 years. Though IT industry started cropping earlier than that it was around the year 1995 when I saw a majority of my generation moving towards IT from the core Finance and Mechanical Industry. I remember the focus was more on getting a Computer Science group in your higher education. The focus on Biology or Commerce had taken a back seat. Most of the parents would force their child to study well to secure a place in Computer Science Group. Unfortunately, I believe the crux was not to excel in the subject matter but to get a better earning opportunity. Even in engineering the focus started slowly moving from mechanical to computer science. Any which ways IT did grow at a great pace in the country. From an agriculture based economy today India has become an emerging IT industry. Though agriculture and manufacturing industry still holds a f
